People who are resilient work smarter, and can negotiate the inevitable changes that are the one certainty of life.  People who know what teamwork really means can turn good teams into great ones.

The Challenge of Change, uniquely developed from ongoing academic research and firmly evidence-based, applies cutting-edge psychology to training, assessment and development.  Designed by internationally renowned psychologist Dr Derek Roger, thousands of individuals both in the UK and NZ have already benefited from its often ‘life changing’ impact.

    Derek Roger

Dr Derek Roger is a leading business psychologist, executive coach, author and speaker who has enjoyed a distinguished academic career. Qualifying initially in clinical psychology, the emphasis in Derek's work subsequently shifted towards neuroscience.  His ground-breaking research at the University of York in England has made him one of the world’s leading experts on resilience and stress management, and Derek applies his significant experience at the cutting edge of psychology to working situations in an insightful and commercially relevant manner.  Derek is a British Psychological Society Chartered Psychologist, and is a Fellow of the International Stress Management Association.

Initiated - 20 year Research Programme
Derek Roger was appointed to the Psychology Department at the University of York in 1977. Drawing on his expertise in personality, psychometrics and neuroscience, Derek initiated an innovative programme of research on stress and health and established the internationally-renowned Stress Research Unit at the University of York. Derek directed and led the Unit which was funded continuously for over 20 years by UK grant-awarding bodies, which in turn funded programmes for a number of Research Fellows as well as attracting international visiting researchers.

    Move to New Zealand
After an enjoyable and life-changing holiday in New Zealand, Derek and his wife, Gwen, decided to emigrate and in 2003 made New Zealand their home, settling in idyllic Banks Peninsula. His move here is a significant coup for those NZ businesses and organisations able to tap into the expertise of a unique business psychologist of considerable international standing and calibre.

    Ongoing Research
The research programme Derek initiated at the University of York is ongoing at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch. His research interests in neuroscience focuses on psychoneuroimmunolgy, particularly on the moderating role of psychosocial factors in stress and health and his current research is extending this work.

    Published Findings
Findings from the research have been published in over 120 journal articles, books and conference papers, including in a number of invited keynote presentations. Please refer to the Case Studies in the Resources section of this website for examples of his applied business psychology.
