The New Zealand Refining Company

"The Resilience Course helped improve our self awareness and it dispelled many myths regarding stress - this was further backed up with the introduction of simple coping mechanisms as a way forward."

The New Zealand Refining Company, situated at the Marsden Point Refinery near Whangarei, is New Zealand's only refiner of oil products and is one of the most modern refineries in the world. They employ a highly skilled workforce of just over 300 permanent staff and 300 contracting staff, who all contribute to helping the company be New Zealand's oil supplier of choice. There is a strong team culture throughout the organisation, people are recognised as the most important asset and the learning environment encourages people to reach their full potential.

Blair Stevenson, Health & Safety Advisor
"Our site consultative Health and Safety committee recently undertook Dr Derek Rogers Resilience course as part of our 2010 annual training. The committee comprised of a broad selection of 25 elected / nominated reps ranging from senior management to our contractor labour force. We chose Derek to deliver the training due to his impressive performance as a keynote speaker at the 2010 Safeguard conference.

Derek's course empowered the participants with extra skills to make them not only more effective as Health and Safety reps, but improved their leadership qualities as well. Derek's delivery style and content connected well with the participants and the course notes were presented in a simple workable format. The Resilience course helped improve our self awareness and it dispelled many myths regarding stress - this was further backed up with the introduction of simple coping mechanisms as a way forward.

Since the course all participants have mentioned how much they thoroughly enjoyed the training and how it has made improvements in many aspects of their lives. I would sincerely recommend the Challenge of Change to any organisation or work group seeking to improve personal performance from their valued staff."
